NBA Shot Chart: Denver Nuggets Leading Shooters, 1996-2021

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Nuggets have been a really exciting team to watch over these past few years. It feels like it’s 2007, when Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson had teamed up. Main difference is that, in the opinion of many, they’re even better now. With the likes of MVP Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, and Michael Porter Jr, Denver may actually have a contending team this season.

I’m not here to talk about the future. Well, to be honest, I will definitely be posting about the Nuggets in the future as the season is upon us. This post is about Denver’s most successful scorers since 1996.

Three shot charts with the most field goals made in total, most field goals made in a single season, and the most efficient scorers are visualized below to tell us some Denver Nuggets history.

Most field goals made by zone, 1996-2021

Carmelo Anthony spent 7 and a half seasons at Denver, and man, what a leader he was. His deadly midrange puts him on the chart as the leading scorer of four different zones, including the paint. Antonio McDyess was a beast at Denver and his domination near the paint shows. Marcus Camby spent most of his career with the Nuggets and many of his 10.1 PPG at Denver came thanks to his scoring from the top of the key. JR Smith also spent most of his career at Denver and was a big threat from the wings.

Fun fact: all four players mentioned above either came from or went to the New York Knicks.

After 6 seasons, it’s great to see MVP Nikola Jokic lead his favorite 3-point spot. I’m pretty sure he’ll own more zones in the coming years.

Most field goals made in a single season by zone, 1996-2021

2020-21 MVP Nikola Jokic is the owner of the record for the most buckets made in the paint by a Nuggets player! His 60 3-pointers made from the straight-up 3pt zone in 2018 is also a record. Melo’s deadly midrange put him on the chart, as did JR Smith’s 3-point skill. Some cool old-schoolers made it here too, like Dale Ellis, Antonio McDyess, Voshon Lenard, and Juwan Howard.

Most efficient field goal shooters zone, 1996-2021

This chart is evidence of how good the Nuggets are right now. 3 of their most efficient shooters are currently on the team: the Joker Nikola Jokic, the Blue Arrow Jamal Murray, and Michael Porter Jr.

What a threat Allen Iverson was; his efficiency attacking the rim was great.
