NBA Shot Chart: Orlando Magic Leading Shooters, 1996-2021

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Orlando Magic have had a history of great stars since they entered the league in 1989. The team is where Shaq started his NBA career in 1992 and he led them to the NBA Finals in 1995. Since then, players such as Penny Hardaway, Tracy McGrady, Dwight Howard, and Nikola Vucevic have been bringing some joy to Orlando basketball fans.

Four shot charts make up this post. I visualize the most field goals made in total since 1996, the most field goals made in a single season, the most efficient, and most shots made in the 2008-09 season when the Magic made the Finals.

Most field goals made by zone, Orlando Magic 1996-2021

Nikola Vucevic and Jameer Nelson own three spots each! Vucevic is an amazing midrange shooter and will be missed at Orlando. Nelson owns the right elbow, top three, and right wing. Hedo Turkoglu owns the left wing. Rashard Lewis and Keith Bogus own the corner 3s. Tracy McGrady was lethal from the left baseline during his time at Orlando. The obvious leader in the paint is Dwight Howard.

In 2009, an amazing Magic team made it to the Finals by beating LeBron’s Cavs. Rashard Lewis, Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkoglu, Jameer Nelson, Rafer Alston, Courtney Lee, Mickael Pietrus, and JJ Redick made up a solid team.

In that regular season, Rashard led the team from all over the court – he owned all but one 3-pt zone and the right baseline. Courtney Lee led the left corner 3. Jameer Nelson was the midrange man with great volume around the elbows. Turkoglu was the leader in shots made from the left baseline.

The leader of all, the “Dwightmare” Dwight Howard, simply DOMINATED the paint.

Most field goals made by zone in a single season, Orlando Magic 1996-2021

This shot chart is where we see how awesome Tracy McGrady was. He leads six zones thanks to great seasons in 2001, 2003, and 2004, when he was the team’s star. Vucevic leads his favorite 3-point spot due to his 2021 performance, which was actually cut short since he was traded to the Bulls.

Rashard Lewis’ 2010 season and Keith Bogus’ 2008 season own the corner threes. Terrence Ross in 2019 gave him the left wing. Last, Dwight Howard and his 2011 season is the Magic’s best paint performance in the past 25 years!

Most efficient shooters by zone, Orlando Magic 1996-2021

JJ Redick and corner 3s – name a more iconic duo! In terms of efficiency, some great names show up on this chart. Horace Grant, Grant Hill, Arroyo, DeShawn Stevenson, Ibaka, and Bo Outlaw are all players that have been a nice part of Magic history.
