EuroLeague Shot Charts: Olympiacos Leading Shooters, 2007-2021

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Olympiacos is one of the most successful teams in European basketball. They have made 10 Final Four appearances since the mid-90s, six of them taking place between 2009-2017. The Piraeus-based team is second only to rivals Panathinaikos in domestic and international success and can proudly boast having one of the most exciting home atmospheres.

The list of players that have starred for “the reds” is long and impressive: Žarko Paspalj, Giorgos Sigalas, Walter Berry, Panagiotis Fasoulas, Dino Rađja, Theo Papaloukas, Miloš Teodosić, Josh Childress, Linas Kleiza, Rašho Nesterović, Kostas Papanikolaou, Kostas Sloukas, Georgios Printezis and last but not least the legend Vassilis Spanoulis.

Three shot charts below show the best Olympiacos scorers in 2007-2021. I visualize the most field goals made in total since 2007, the most field goals made in a single season, and the most efficient shooters by zone.

Most field goals made by zone, Olympiacos 2007-21

Vassilis “Kill Bill” Spanoulis, Georgios “Ai Giorgis” Printezis, Kostas “Slouky Luke” Sloukas, and Kostas Papanikolaou. No surprises here as these players have been the of Olympiacos and the main reason behind the team’s success in the ‘10s.

There is no doubt as to how great a shooter Spanoulis is. He owns both wings, the straight up 3, and the right elbow. Printezis actually leads one zone more than Spanoulis: the paint, both baseline zones, the left elbow, and the left corner 3.

Kostas Sloukas leads the top of the key and Kostas Papanikolaou is the top scorer from the right corner 3.

It’s no surprise to see Spanoulis, Sloukas, and Printezis here again. “Kill Bill” gets the straight up 3 zone thanks to his performance in 2012-13, the year the reds won their back-to-back EuroLeague title. Spanoulis’ performance in 2016 gave him the right wing zone, as he led Olympiacos to the EuroLeague Finals, eventually losing to Fenerbahçe.

Sloukas earned the top of the key and right elbow zones in 2020-21. In that same season, Sasha Vezenkov made 24 shots from the left wing, setting the season record for the zone.

Printezis’ 2014-15 and 2019-20 performances from the left and right baselines respectively are the best Olympiacos records from those zones.

Matt Lojeski, a great 3-point shooter, leads both corner 3 spots. Nikola Milutinov and his 2018-19 season is the paint leader for Olympiacos. Erick Green set the record for the left elbow in 2016.

Some interesting players and results came up on this chart.

There’s no Spanoulis and no Sloukas, but we do see Printezis lead the left baseline with 40%.

We see Matt Lojeski, but he doesn’t lead a 3-pt zone but the left elbow and right baseline. Milutinov leads from the top of the key while the paint is owned by Jake Tsakalidis. Stratos Perperoglou leads the right elbow.

Nigel Williams-Goss has 52% from the straight up 3 and owns the zone. 52% is Oliver Lafayette’s record from the left wing too, which gives him the zone. Ioannis Bourousis had 55% from the right wing in his four out of five seasons at Olympiacos included in this analysis.

The right corner 3 is owned by Ioannis Papapetrou’s 48%. The right corner 3 is led by Vangelis Mantzaris’ 54%.

I really hope you enjoyed the Olympiacos part of the EuroLeague top shooters by zone series. Was there anything that surprised you? Let me know in the comments! Also, don’t forget to follow us on our social media accounts below.
